Instructional Guide for CHAPA Customers, Allocation and Contract Process
Welcome to the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHAPA). This guide outlines the step-by-step process for applying for, obtaining approval, and contracting for land or construction projects through CHAPA.
Application Process
Requirements:
To complete your application, please prepare the following documents:
- Financial Profile: A comprehensive overview of your financial status.
- Proof of Citizenship: Documentation confirming Antiguan and Barbudan citizenship (e.g., passport or birth certificate and pictured national ID).
- Proof of Income: Recent pay slips, employment letter, or other relevant income verification.
Steps to Apply:
- Obtain a Downloadable Application form or Apply Online. Applications are also available at CHAPA’s head office.
- Fill out the application form completely and accurately.
- Submit the completed form along with all required documents to CHAPA.
- Wait for confirmation that your application has been received and is being processed.
- Allocation Process
Review and Approval:
- Once your application is submitted, it will be forwarded to the Allocations Committee for review.
- The committee evaluates applications based on eligibility and availability of properties.
- Approved applicants will be notified of their status and provided with further instructions.
Property Viewing:
- A property viewing will be scheduled for approved applicants.
- During the viewing, applicants must:
- Inspect the property’s current condition.
- Confirm the presence of boundary markers.
- Sign a viewing form acknowledging the inspection and condition of the property.
- Contracting Process
Commitment to Purchase:
- After signing the viewing form, applicants have 14 business days to commit to a sale contract to purchase the property.
Deposit Requirements:
- Land Purchase: A non-refundable deposit of $500 is required.
- Construction Contract: A non-refundable deposit of $1,500 is required.
Contract Duration:
- Land Contracts: Must be finalized within 45 days.
- Construction Contracts: Must be finalized within 60 days.
Steps to Finalize Contract:
- Provide the necessary deposit as specified.
- Review the contract carefully before signing.
- Sign the contract within the specified timeframe.
- Retain a copy of the signed contract for your records.
